Operation Iraqi Freedom

The photo was used to produce leaflets drop over Iraq during the Iraqi Freedom military campaign.

The above photo, an explosive thermal decomposition of an unstable peroxide forming
compound, was initiated by an explosive donor charge.
The U.S. Army's, 8th Psychological Operation Battalion (PSYOP), used this photo
to create four different leaflets dropped over Iraq during Operation Iraqi Freedom
in the spring of 2003.

One of the Iraqi Freedom leaflets is shown below with a translation of the Arabic text.

Translation - Do not use weapons of mass destruction.
Front - Translation - "Do not use weapons of mass destruction."

Translation - Any unit that chooses to use weapons of mass destruction will face swift and severe retribution by Coalition Forces. Unit commanders will be held accountable if weapons of mass destruction are used.
Back - Translation - "Any unit that chooses to use weapons of mass destruction
will face swift and severe retribution by Coalition Forces. Unit commanders will
be held accountable if weapons of mass destruction are used."

It has been an honor and a privilege to have made a small contribution and assist the
American Soldier in the war against terrorism during Operation Iraqi Freedom.
I have taken many interesting photos over my lifetime, however, this one
has become very special.
